Japanese energy company Eneos, which is involved in the Yedankun gas exploration project, has completed the necessary steps to cease operations. In April last year, Eneos notified its partner, Malaysian state-owned oil company Petronas Carigali and others, that it would cease operations in Myanmar.
Eneos' energy drilling plans have also been criticized for providing financial support to Myanmar's military council, Nikkei reported in March.
According to Upstram Energy News, two years after the military government took over, Japanese energy companies announced that they would stop energy drilling projects in Myanmar. Eneos subsidiary Myanmar oil driller Nippon JXM owns a 19% stake in the Malaysian Petronas Carigali joint venture involved in the Yat Dan Khun field, and a 40% stake in Japan's JX Nippon Oil and Gas Drilling Company.
Similarly, in February this year, Thailand's PTTEP Petroleum Company, Malaysia's Petrinas Petroleum Company and Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation also announced their withdrawal from Myanmar's Yedan Kun oil field business.
