An explosion occurred on a ferry near Indonesia's Pulau Pemanggil Islands, injuring 10 men and women, who have been sent to hospital for treatment.
The Malaysian Maritime Law Enforcement Agency’s Mersing branch commander Su Haizhan confirmed that at around 11:50 this morning, an explosion occurred about 7.6 nautical miles northeast of Berber Mangi Island.
Most of the injured suffered leg injuries and were treated briefly before being sent to hospitals.
He revealed that the ferry was sailing from Mersing to Koh Ao when it suddenly exploded while passing through the waters near Kubo Mangi Island, injuring 10 male and female passengers aged between 32 and 48 years old.
Su Haizhan issued this statement today, which contains the above disclosure.
He said that of the six injured women, two had serious leg injuries, while the remaining four had minor leg injuries.
Ten men and women were injured in the explosion. Among the four male injured, one suffered serious leg and back injuries, another suffered leg injuries, and two male crew members suffered minor injuries.
Recently, the injured were transferred to a public boat near the discovery site and were sent to Mersing Hospital for treatment with the assistance of the boat.The authorities are currently investigating the specific cause of the explosion.
