A 54-year-old female beautician fell into a scam while buying a second-hand car on the social media Facebook and lost about RM6770.

Ms. Yang, the victim of Sungai Long in Selangor, held a press conference today accompanied by Datuk Seri Teo Tianci, Director of the Department of Public Services and Complaints of Malaysia.She said that on the 9th of this month, she saw a car sale advertisement on Facebook and contacted the account after seeing it, hoping to buy a 2021 Honda utility vehicle.

According to Ms. Yang, the scammer then contacted her through the instant messaging software WhatsApp, falsely claiming that the car dealership was located in Langkawi, and said that the victim had taken a fancy to a car imported from Japan, priced at RM4, and required an upfront payment of RM8000. of deposit.

She said that she transferred the money to a private bank account in accordance with the scammer's request. However, three days later on the 3th, she received another notice from the other party asking to pay RM14 for car insurance and road tax.

I will again deposit the money into another bank account provided by the other party.

According to Ms. Yang, the scammer recently once again sent a fee of RM6000 to the Land Transport Department on the grounds that the car could not be transported out of Langkawi, asking the owner to remit money and provide a pass stamp.However, the owner immediately canceled the transaction after noticing something unusual and called the police for help.

She said that the scammer used the excuse that the car was registered in the owner's name, demanding that the owner not cancel the transaction, and even called her to threaten her, which caused her a lot of trouble.

Ms. Yang hopes to use the press conference to remind the public not to easily believe in advertisements for online car shopping, so as not to fall into the trap of scammers and put themselves in trouble.
