The second Digital Economy Forum was held in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia Murphy stated at the meeting that the United States will step up its pace to strengthen its cybersecurity cooperation with Cambodia.
According to reports, the two-day forum, supported by the USAID-funded Digital Asia Accelerator and regional management consulting and strategic communications firm MangoTango Asia, aims to promote the strengthening of the digital economy sector in the Indo-Pacific region.
U.S. Ambassador Murphy said the United States is working with the Cambodian government and private sector to initiate a dialogue on digital policy.As the digital world knows no borders, we need to understand Cambodia’s specific needs and regulatory framework, which are very important for the digital sector.
In a media interview, he said that the United States is cooperating with all ASEAN countries to jointly respond to the increasing number of financial fraud crimes.The victims of these crimes include a large number of U.S. citizens.
He emphasized, "Financial fraud activities have fully revealed the fragility of the online world. Therefore, governments in the region must unite and cooperate to ensure network security and strike a balance between network security and freedom of expression."
He said that the United States hopes to further strengthen bilateral relations with the new Cambodian government and hopes that the new government can use existing opportunities to address the challenges facing Cambodia.
